WAGE Roundtable Series #7

Improving Presentation Skills – A Roundtable for Early Career Scholars

Video recording of the event

[EN] WAGE Roundtable Series | Event #7 : Youtube link

Summary:

During our careers most of us give myriad presentations, both to diverse academic audiences (at one’s own institution, at regional, national and international conferences, etc.) and to other groups (communities in which we carry out research, Rotary clubs, high school classes, etc.). We also witness many excellent, good, and less-than-brilliant talks by colleagues. In this roundtable we consider how to elevate your presentations and to avoid common pitfalls. We will discuss issues of adapting your presentation to your audience, using presentation software effectively, preparing for the discussion that follows most presentations, and preparing for ‘hiccups’ that you might encounter. The roundtable aims to help early-career scholars enhance presentation skills.

Topics:
• Considering your audience
• Using presentation graphics software effectively
• Preparing for discussion
• Preparing for ‘hiccups’ and ‘disasters”
• Other ‘dos’ and ‘don’ts’
