Collective Book Project on Inequalities in the Arctic

WAGE Circumpolar Partnership has launched a Collective Book Project on Inequalities in the Arctic, which will compile and synthesize the main results of WAGE Partnership program. Co-researchers, collaborators, Indigenous Scholar and Knowledge Holders, students, and partners are invited to submit chapters on research funded by the program or on subjects directly related to understanding inequalities in the Arctic.

Objectives

The prime objective of the Collective Book on Inequalities in the Arctic is to assemble a comprehensive collection of texts describing or explaining the state of inequalities, observable trends affecting inequalities, or ways of influencing these states and trends to strengthen social justice. It also aims to enable the expression of scientific and Indigenous Knowledge, and to foster dialogue between these ways of describing and understanding inequalities. Finally, it aims to share work carried out within the WAGE program or in other related programs or projects, including not only classic academic papers and case studies, but also reflections, comments, stories and other forms of cultural and artistic expression.

Content

The WAGE Circumpolar Partnership Collective Book Project on Inequalities will contain: 

  • A general synthesis of the overall results. 
  • Chapters focusing on empirical work, including case studies.
  • Chapters of a theoretical nature, with or without examples of their application, setting out various meanings of WAGE Circumpolar Partnership's key concepts drawn from scientific and Indigenous Knowledge.
  • Chapters presenting reflections, commentaries, stories, and other forms of artistic and cultural expression that can be reproduced in the format of a book.
  • Chapters from graduate students involved in the program based on their own research, or their participation to CASES 2023, CASES 2024 or CASES 2025.
  • Posters summarizing research projects, concepts, tools and data useful for understanding inequalities and making them accessible to a wide audience.
  • A comprehensive bibliography including all research outcomes created under the program. 
     

Process

The WAGE Circumpolar Partnership will set up a Parity Editorial Commission (PEC). 

  • Chapters proposals received will be evaluated on their merits by the PEC, considering the objectives and expected contents of the Collective Book Project.
  • The PEC will contact the authors to communicate: its decision on acceptance of each chapter proposal; suggestions for improvement; and guidelines for authors. 
  • Based on the abstracts received, the PEC will create a tentative table of contents which will be used: 
    • to find an Open Access publisher;
    • to identify gaps that may lead the PEC to request proposals for additional chapters. 
  • The PEC will receive the chapters and have them evaluated according to its guidelines.    
  • The PEC will contact the authors to provide comments and suggestions for a final version.
